Dotch is an app for splitting bills.

Problem

Bill splitting is difficult for many reasons, including:

• Not everyone has a card
• POS failures are common
• In-person bank transfers are high-friction
• Waiters struggle with the math

Most times, one person pays the bill and everyone pays back.

But the experience of this—calculating what each party should pay, collecting account numbers, making the transfer—can also be very stressful.

To solve the bill splitting problem, we want to make it easy for the person who pays (the Host) to get money back from others.

The idea is to:

1. Make it easy to compose a bill by either typing in the total amount, scanning a receipt, or manually entering line items.
2. Make it easy to split a bill into groups either by amount or items.
3. Automatically create payment links for each split.
4. Automatically settle the Host when payments are made.
